Squadron Earns 2013 Aerospace Education Excellence Award

Congratulations to the Columbus Composite Squadron GLR-OH-139 and member Cadets for completing the requirements for the 2013 AEX Award. With the leadership and guidance of 1st Lt Mark A. Holtzclaw our Aerospace Education Officer, this AEX Award which stands for  “Aerospace Education EXcellence." was earned thru activities completed by participating cadets including:
 
1) Working with hot air balloons
2) A strategy game called Sky Wars similar to the game battleship, but set in the air with aircraft and a third dimension.
3) Ring Wing - a lesson in non-traditional aircraft design
4) Lost on the Moon - a NASA exercise in ranking items needed for survival on the moon.
5) The Fizzy Flyer - Cadets constructed a chemical reaction rocket using construction paper, a film container and Alka-Seltzer / Water as fuel. 
6) Junk Rockets - Cadets constructed rockets out of paper towel tubes, construction paper and using rubber band power to propel.
 
Cadets also participated in a field trip to the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force at Wright-Patterson AFB as well as an extended Aerospace activity simulating competitive aircraft procurement and design. For completing the AEX program for 2013, the squadron will receive a plaque from CAP National HQ and Cadets who participated in all the activities will receive certificates of completion.
